Preventing forest fires talk on anniversary of fires

Monchique Alerta - Mountains Free From Fire are marking the anniversary of the fires on Saturday 3rd August, by inviting Professor Domingos Xavier Viegas, from the University of Coimbra, to speak in Monchique along with the local community sharing their thoughts and memories.

Professor Xavier Viegas is a member of the National Independent Technical Observatory (Observatório Técnico Independente). 

The event will start at 10:30am with the opening of a exhibition of photographs.  The event

will end with a minute of silence at 1:32pm, the time when the Monchique fire started in 2018.

The main topic of discussion will be how to prevent fires in the future. 

People will be gathering at the Fonte Dos Chorões in Monchique.
